VaBirders,
       While strolling this afternoon along the Upland Trail in River Bend 
Park, I was treated to a marvelous ten minutes or so, watching a LOUISIANA 
WATERTHRUSH forage, preen, and then sit wagging its tail on a branch at my 
eye level, all the time in plain view within 15 to 20 yards of trail bridge.  
Other afternoon avian treats included another LOWA, two PILEATED WOODPECKERs, 
a busy WINTER WREN, a BROWN CREEPER, and a customarily frenetic 
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET.  While the river trail was crowded with strollers, 
children on bicycles and dogs tugging at their masters' leashes, I had the 
Upland Trail all to myself except for two cyclists who were curious about the 
LOWA.  A most satisfying afternoon.
