Hello all
Yesterday morning around 4:30 am Pat & I were suddenly waken by the hoots of a
Great Horned Owl . I looked out from the window to see if the Owl was close by
& it was sitting in the top of a tree just under the street light . We just
could see the out lines of the bird & by the time I got my night vision scope
the Owl flew off over the house .
Later on in the morning Pat & I ventured out to see what came in with the early
morning rain . The birds were few but they were good ones. At Smith's we only
had 2 Great Blue Heron & at the Boy Scout Camp there were 2 Blue -- winged Teal
& 10 Ring -- necked Duck ( all females ) . So Pat & I decided to go to the
Augusta Wetlands . Here are the highlights from there . Green Heron --1 ( this
is an early date by 2 days for our County ) , Wood Duck -- 2 , 3 Blue -- Gray
Gnatcatcher , 3 Ruby -- crowned Kinglets .
We then checked out the Lyndhurst & Stuarts Draft areas . At Quillin's there
were 2 Green -- winged Teal & 1 Red -- headed Woodpecker & last on Rt 652 we
had about 15 to 20 American Pipits fly by . Not the best day of birding but it
yeilded us some year birds. Happy birding to all .
Pat & Allen Larner
