Found 1st Snowy Egret of Season at Veteran's Park, Prince William
County, VA. A begining birder who goes there everyday said that it
arrived 10 days ago and he has seen as many as three at one time since
then.
Other birds present:
Great Blue Heron - 4
Green-winged Teal - 1pr
No. Shovler - 1
Wood Duck - 3
No. Rough-winged swallow - 4 to 6
Caspian Tern - 3
Forster's Tern - 2
Unidentified Tern - 3
Greater Yellowlegs - 30-40 (They all flew off simutaneously in the
middle of my count - The Red-tail Hawk flying above may have spooked
them)
Yellow-rumped Warbler - 6
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher - 2
Immature Bald Eagle carrying a fish.
Plus plenty of the usual suspects -crows, sparrows, cardinals, etc.
Occoquan NWR
Was able to drive on the Wildlife Drive when they opened it temporarily
for a special group. They closed it after I was already on it, but
didn't say anything to me. The Drive is little different than the rest
of the trails with no views of the Potomac and if you can't access it,
you're not missing much.
Observed from parking lot and Wildlife Drive:
Brown Thrasher (Haven't seen one since the fall)
Osprey - 3
Northern Harrier - 1
Red-tailed Hawk - 1
GB Heron - 1
RW Blackbirds, Cardinals, sparrows.
AND 1 FOX (not the sparrow) sauntering across the parking lot.
