[va-bird] Delayed report from Westmoreland State Park

One week ago, April 2, I was at Westmoreland State Park entertaining my
children and casually observing the birds. An osprey had already occupied a
nest on the boathouse; two adult bald eagles flew back and forth over the
beach. But the most noteworthy birds were several hundred yards offshore in
the Potomac: about a dozen Gannets. They were there all day, flying, diving
or just sitting on the water. The river at that point is fairly salty, but
I thought this was an unusual concentration of these normally oceangoing
birds so far upriver.
