[va-bird] Richmond Sighting

This morning a Hoopoe (Uppupa epops) was reported from the parking lot of
a Ukrops grocery store in Richmond. It is a new record for the state for this
Old World species. Its plumage is similar to that of a basketball ref wearing
an Amerindian headdress. Some think that its appearance at this time may be
related to the NCAA final ,and that it intended to go to Atlanta .
If the bird turns out to be an American subspecies it may be called Uppupa
epops ukrops. Anyway, Another Prize Really Is Likely For Our Own Lists.
