Birders,

I spent an hour scoping Belmont Bay from Mason Neck State Park this 
lunchtime.  Hardly any waterfowl were to be seen: a few LESSER SCAUP and 
COMMON MERGANSERS, but the wind pushed most everything over to Great Marsh 
on the wildlife refuge.  However, the BALD EAGLES are out in force, adults 
and subadults alike soaring on the breeze over the water and the shores.  I 
also saw our first two OSPREY of the season.  Hooray!  A RED-TAILED HAWK 
soared overhead as I was packing up, and then just before I got back to the 
Visitor Center a BLACK VULTURE flew overhead as well, the white 
wrist-patches distinct from my vantage point.  GREAT BLUE HERONS were 
numerous as well, and I expect to see them moving nest material around soon. 
  Ah, spring...
