[va-bird] Birding Ethics

All,
<Paul Mocko, please accept my apologies for the non-birding oriented post.>
To this issue, I see it as one more symptom of the craziness that goes on
around here on and off the listserv. I have become increasingly frustrated
with the goings-on and I am at a point where I feel it is not worth the effort.
I am for birding ethics, but I think the way the most recent situation was
handled was a bit unfortunate. When folks act unreasonably, it begets more
unreasonableness to a never-ending spiral of disrespect. I feel that if we
adhere to a few key concepts, things will be much better off. They are below:
Be reasonable toward others
Don't take yourself too seriously
Think positive
Try to have fun
The object of this is birds, not the people who watch them
If you want to question someone else, use diplomacy
Furthermore, I am sorry I ever got wrapped up in the crazy interpersonal
aspects of VA birding. Doing so has caused me to fail to adhere to the very
ideas I stated above in the past. The stresses involved with attempting to
enjoy a hobby or avocation or career (whatever it is to you) is in reality a
little more than would seem likely. Let's just go back to stabbing each other
in the back off the listserve...
Jay Keller
