Yesterday (Feb. 28) and today (March 1) were busy days for stopovers and our
normal winter birds. A warm front from the South seems to have pushed many
birds North. Observed the following in and around our Backyard Habitat in
Madison:
Large flock of ROBINS (about 400)
GRACKLE 35
CEDAR WAXWING 40
STARLINGS 60
NORTHERN FLICKER 1
MOCKINGBIRD 1
BLUEBIRD 6
CAROLINA CHICKADEE 2
TUFTED TITMOUSE 3
DARK_EYED JUNCO 12
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW 15
SONG SPARROW 1
HOUSE SPARROW 4
DOWNY WOODPECKER 3
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET 1
PURPLE FINCH 14
HOUSE FINCH 2
CARDINAL 5
TURKEY VULTURE 3
AMERICAN CROW 8
BLUE JAY 2
MOURNING DOVE 8
From soon after dawn until around 10:00 am, the air was filled with a
cacophony of ROBINS singing.
