February was pretty typical at the College Creek Hawkwatch, on the James
River, just east of Williamsburg, with only a few flight days. For the month we

managed coverage on 9 days, for about 10 hours and 73 birds, which is a
little below average. On one day, temperatures even remained below freezing,
though brids were still moving. The species were Black Vultures, Turkey
Vultures,
Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Northern Harriers and Red-tailed Hawks.

The only other migrants coming across the river so far have been a few Fish
Crows over the past few days and flocks of blackbirds.

Bird movement should pick up rapidly over the next 2 weeks or so.
