Jeff Blalock continues to experience posting problems and has asked that I
forward the following Sunday report to VA-Bird. Brenda Tekin,
Charlottesville, VA
Please forward to VA-Bird List for me as I still cannot post to it.
Today Sunday 06 Mar 05 at Staunton River Battlefield State Park, I found the
following:
First as I walked into the observation tower behind the office I saw two
Common Ravens. They were playing aerial tag for a few minutes and one would
even call out a whooo as it went into a nose dive and did a snap roll. It
did this three times before it flew off.
Another unusual sighting today was a single Tree Swallow. Blue Book early
date shows 20 Mar for the piedmont.
At the duck ponds at the lower part of the Park a single GB Heron was seen
and 30 Ring-necked Ducks, 3 Hooded Mergansers and a single male Wood Duck.
Several Swamp Sparrows were observed as well as Yellow-rumped Warblers.
Other sightings at the cooling pond at the Clover power plant included 8
male Red-breasted Mergansers and 30 Gadwall Ducks along with a large flock
of Ring-billed Gulls.
Good Birding Always
