[va-bird] Re: Birders as additional eyes

I was just about to make this point - it is true for the CBBT, and any =
other place we choose to bird. =20
We might also have photographic evidence of wrong doers/terrorists if we =
find them -- for the digiscoping crowd.

This is true at dams, and around our parks. I've run into a few =
law-breakers in DC after dark while out looking for night birds.
But, even down at Haines Point in DC, we've been harassed when using =
spotting scopes pointed across the Potomac towards the airport.

We must step up and show ourselves to be friends of security, and not =
foes.

I wonder if it is worth pointing out that birders offer CBBT security a
much extended reach in terms of watching for unusual activity on the
islands. On any given day, birders visiting the CBBT bring powerful
optics, terrific observation skills, and usually cell phones. Having
even one extra pair of highly skilled eyes per day on the bridge tunnel
islands is a plus that we contribute to, not detract from, the security
effort.
