My brother and I stopped at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel yesterday. I
thought the scoter numbers were lower than when I was there about a month
ago. Most of the scoters were Surf and very few White-winged Scoters were
seen. A few Bufflehead, Red-breasted Mergansers, and some Scaup were with
the scoters. Brant were seen on just about every island (wonderful views of
these) . There was an American Oystercatcher on the bayside concrete edge
of Island 3. The male Harlequin Duck was at Island 4 on the bayside. Two
Harbor Seals were at the jetty on Island 3. We did not see any eiders and
only saw one female Long-tailed Duck. I enjoyed seeing Great Cormorants in
breeding plumage again. It was a nice day -- the water was calm with no
wind present -- maybe that dampened the birding.
