Va-birders:
1. I saw a Brown Creeper nipping suet from a friend's feeder in a backyard
in Williamsburg. This was far from the old growth habitat i associate with
this species. Is this a strange sighting for this area at this time of
year?
2. In the afternoon on Saturday at Old Dominion Univ. in Norfolk, a very
loud bird was calling constantly from atop the building next door to the
Batten Arts and Letters Bldg. (This is building 38 on the campus map, the
one with the satellites on top -- i dont know the name). It's call had
three stanzas, each about the same length, was very loud, and was repeated
identically each time. Has anyone heard this particular bird (folks said
it has been there a while) or know what type of bird it might be? My first
thought was some type of gull or a red-shouldered hawk, but it doesnt
match my CDs. The middle stanza was a repetitive crow-like sound, the
others more subdued.
Thanks
