Quickly scanning the river south of Alexandria on my way to work this morning
turned up one Red-necked Grebe in the river from the overlook just north of
Waynewood Blvd. (It then flew south). With no time to count, other species
seen between Waynewood and Riverside Park near Mt. Vernon inc:
Scaup (Lesser is all I saw, but I didn't look too closely)
Ring-Necked Duck (1)
Common Merg
Hooded Merg (2)
Gadwall
Canvasback (1)
Bufflehead
Horned Grebe
Mallard
Canada Goose
Great Black Backed Gull
Ring Billed Gull
Bald Eagle
Pileated Woodpecker
Am. Crow

Had to quit looking after finding the grebe, but not bad for a quick 15
minutes of birding.
