[va-bird] Great-Horned Owl on Deer Carcass

Yesterday, about 11 am, my wife & I saw a Great-horned Owl & a Turkey Vulture
eating a fresh (it had not been there the day before) deer carcass on the side
of Snickersville Turnpike near Aldie, VA (Loudoun County). There were several
other Turkey Vultures on the stone fence & in the trees near the carcass but
only one TV was on the carcass w/the owl. When we drove back by the carcass
about 10 pm last night there was almost nothing left of the carcass.
While I have seen both Red-tailed Hawks & Bald Eagles on deer carcasses before
(& two Barred Owls on a carcass at Mason Neck NWR some years back) this is the
first time I have ever seen a Great-horned Owl on one & so late in the morning.
I guess the extensive snow cover we still have has made hunting a bit tough.
