[va-bird] Augusta Bird Club's field trip

Hello all

Yesterday at 8 am 14 members & family met for a field trip to the Swoope & 
Augusta Wetlands . Jo King , Harry & Beth Lumadue , W T Pendleton, Marietta 
Beverage , Charles & Jean Brodwater with their son & daughter -- in -- law  
Glenn & Karen Brodwater , Jerry Pangburn , Andrew Clem , Yulee Larner & my wife 
Pat all enjoyed a nice & warm but cloudy morning of bird watching . We netted 
58 species with the high light birds of Great Egret , Loggerhead Shrike , Pine 
Warbler & a Louisiana Waterthrush at the Boy Scout Camp singing his little  
head off . Below is a list of all the birds seen or heard .

Canada Goose   --- One on nest at Wetlands

Blue -- winged Teal
Greater Scaup
Red -- tailed Hawk 
Am. Kestrel

Belted Kingfisher
Red -- bellied Woodpecker
Yellow -- bellied Sapsucker
Downy 
Hairy
N. Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
E . Phoebe -- at least 8 birds
Loggerhead Shrike -- pair on Rt. 705 
Blue Jay
Am. Crow
Raven
Tree Swallow -- many flying around blue bird boxes
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White -- breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Winter Wren -- found at Wetlands
Golden -- crown Kinglet
E. Blue Bird --- our trip passed thru part of Jo King's trail & she opened up 
one of the boxes & found a complete nest with 2 blue bird eggs 
Hermit Thrush
Am. Robin
N. Mockingbird -- found many , one even sang out a few mews like a catbird !
Brown Thrasher
Starling 
Pine Warbler -- Boy Scout Camp
Louisiana Waterthrush -- Boy Scout Camp -- Matches early date set on March 30 
1979 !

White -- throated Sparrow

Red -- winged Blackbird --- many
Meadowlark --- many singing & flying about in the open fields
Grackle
Cow Bird  -- to many
House Finch

 Afterwards Pat & I went back on Rt. 705  . We stopped to recheck Smith's pond 
& found two more Species of waterfowl that we did not get with the group . 
Black Duck & Green -- winged Teal .  Happy Easter & birding to all .
