Hi Va-bird,

I had about an hour to kill this afternoon before my grandpa's birthday 
party so I went out to Dyke Marsh.  I wouldn't usually report results from 
such a small outing, but there were a few year birds for me and I haven't 
heard a report out there from this weekend.

At any rate, the highlights from the marina were my first Osprey of the 
year, a Bald Eagle, several rafts of coots, and some Common Mergansers.

Scoping from the north most parking lot at Dyke Marsh I saw 7 Bonaparte's 
Gulls which are always fun.  On the far side of the water (barely 
identifiable through the scope) about 20 Tree Swallows were flying back and 
forth near the shore.  Interesting ducks here included about three dozen 
Gadwall, several Black Ducks, 15 Green-winged Teal, at least 2 Red-breasted 
Mergansers, and good numbers of Common Mergansers.

Hunting Creek west of the stone bridge had 11 additional Bonaparte's Gulls 
and a few hundred Ring-billed Gulls.  Aside from the occasional Herring I 
didn't find any other gulls among them.  The only shorebirds were 4 
Killdeer.
