[va-bird] Spring in Staunton: CWs, GFs, PFs

Today I heard some oddly familiar "hsee-ee, hsee-ee" calls in our backyard,
and sure enough saw about 25 cedar waxwings in the tree tops, the first
I've seen this year. Later I found out where the goldfinches that until
recently were frequenting our thistle feeder have gone: I saw several of
them in a nearby wooded area eagerly munching on leaf buds, replenishing
their little bodies with fresh nutrition. The males are already turning
yellow. Also, in their midst I spotted a beautiful male purple finch, the
first one I've seen all winter!
