[va-bird] Manassas Battlefield Highlights 3/5

Greetings,
Brrrr....it was so cold this morning (12 degrees), but I'm glad I hit the
trails 'cause I got to see my first PINE WARBLERS (2) of the year. One pine
warbler sat next to a male E. Bluebird and the colors were gorgeous! Other
highlights included: a GREAT HORNED OWL being mobbed by Crows, Blue Jays, N.
Cardinals, N. Flickers, etc. I've never witnessed this before so it was quite
an experience. To see these birds streaming from all around to mob the owl
was a thrill! I accidentally flushed nine WOOD DUCKS from Bull Run-they made
quite a ruckus. I saw a COMMON RAVEN fly overhead with something in it's
bill-food or nesting material? No wonder the bird sounded a bit off. It was
nice to hear several FIELD SPARROWS and a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET singing, along
with the many N. Cardinals, Titmice, Chickadees, Song Sparrows, E. Bluebirds,
and E. Meadowlarks in full song. Their songs certainly warmed up this frozen
birder. The eight RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were a treat to watch, as always.
