[va-bird] Another goose with mixed genes

While looking at gulls today at the mouth of Hunting Creek (just
Ring-billed, Herring & Great Black-backed - no California's), we saw
another hybrid goose. Sounds similar to one that's been reported in the
area already, but just wanted to alert people to its continued
presence. This one looks like a Canada with a white head and neck and
dull pinks legs. It's about Canada size, but it's neck is a little
shorter. With a good imagination or very poor eyesight, one could say
it looks like a blue phase Snow Goose, but it looks nothing like the
goose I saw on the Anacostia River last week. The bird I saw last week
looks very much like a big blue phase Snow Goose with a brown belly and
dark (gray w/dull pink) legs & bill. In other words, these two birds
are very different. So clearly there are several "mixed" geese in the
DC area right now.

Good birding,
