Uphill from the main field for viewing for owls, there is a  border area that 
stretches out to the next corner in the distance.   The bare deciduous tree 
there had 4 short-ears in one tree from
about 4:30 to 5:00 Pm when they became active.
 
I was joined by Craig, a new birder for me to meet.  And we watched  these 
field hunters acrobatically maneuver through the main field until  dusk.  We 
could here their barks as they interacted in flight with each  other.
 
I wonder if the reason we were so lucky in seeing such activity because the  
owls might have sensed the predicted upcoming ice storm.  Which needless to  
say, would have made tough hunting for a while.  Anthropomorphic,  maybe.
 
Earlier I had seen a harrier swoop by, but I was there for the owls!
