[va-bird] volunteer opportunities at Shenandoah National Park

Dear Virginia birders,

Here's a great opportunity to get involved in bird conservation!

The National Audubon society and the National Park System are sponsoring
3 volunteer invasive species removal days at Shenandoah National Park.
This Park is part of the larger Upper Blue Ridge Mountains Important
Bird Area (IBA) designated by Audubon in 2005. One of the greatest
threats to bird habitat in the IBA is the spread of invasive plant
species like Oriental Bittersweet, Tree or Heaven, and Autumn Olive.  In
fact over 23% of the flora at Shenandoah NP is non-native, seriously
compromising habitat for birds!=20

You can help improve bird habitat by volunteering to help stamp out
invaders on February 17th (next Saturday!), March 10th, or April 7th
from 9am-12pm near Thornton Gap (Hwy 211 and Skyline Drive).  As a thank
you for your efforts, you will get FREE admission to the Park and snacks
and beverages provided by Audubon - not to mention a great day spent in
a beautiful place! =20
