[va-bird] Dyke Marsh (usual suspects and an odd little Sparrow) / Turkey Run (Peregrine Falcon) - Saturday 2/3/07

A late posting. Greg Beck and I birded Saturday - 2/3/07, mainly at Dyke
Marsh, though we did make a trip up the GW parkway to check the river for
anything interesting. Yes it was cold, but highly bearable. We had 37
species at Dyke Marsh. The highlights were:
* 1 American Tree Sparrow
* At least 2 Red-breasted Mergansers (we saw a lone male and then later a
flyover pair)
* Common Mergansers
* Lesser Scaup
* Bufflehead
* Bald Eagle (including some talon locking on the far side of the river,
Maryland I know)
* A lecusitic Song Sparrow (see not so great picture here:

The real excitement was upriver. We stopped at section C-1 at Turkey Run
Park and were about to get back in the car for lack of anything, when lo and
behold we got great looks at a low-flying PEREGRINE FALCON that was
cavorting about and seemingly enjoying the high winds. While still craning
our necks up to the sky after the falcon left, we were treated to a gliding
adult Bald Eagle.
