Jane Beavers & I saw the Western Tanager in Knotts Island, NC about
2:00 PM Sunday. It was feeding in the cedar trees along the road leading to
Martin's Vineyard.
On Saturday, there was an odd looking sparrow along the Jericho Ditch
entrance road at the Great Dismal Swamp. It was with a mixed flock of
White-throated, Song & Field Sparrows. It looked like a White- throated with a
white
head. The head was pure white from the bottom of the nape around to the bottom
of
the throat. There was black post-ocular stripe that looked like the
White-throated stripe & I saw a bit of yellow on the supraloral area. It looks
like a
White-headed White-throated Sparrow. Interesting. The flock was feeding along
the road at the bottom of the slope near the entrance & moved about 60 yards
east along the road.
