Today, wed. Feb. 8th, I finally saw the snowy Owl , a lifer for me. I got
there a little after 4 pm , and set up the scope. After looking for atleast
fifteen minutes on anything white, I spotted her sitting a little in front of
a
sort of red bulletin board and the far end of the runway.
A service truck was driving towards her and she flew. I lost
sight of her, but the people in the truck obviously saw her, and they backed
up. She flew up and then settled again and started picking at something down
by her feet. She would pick then lift her head and then down again . It
certainly looked like she was feeding. She finally finished and started flying
towards the post ofice, and almost got clipped by a plane landing . she
litterally
"swooped up " and cleared the plane's tail. She landed in the grass, the up
again on one of the yellow runway signs. Sat there for a moment and then flew
again, this time to land on a light pole not far from the post office. Left of
the post office is a runway sign CY7--Zy7, just next to it is the light pole.
she looked like she might stay there.

My time at the garage was almost up and I started packing, Sid Lissner? came
down and I got him to look through the scope, as he had binoculars only. she
could be seen with bins, but this was better. It was a lifer for him as for me.
Before I saw the owl, I saw 3 Short-eared owl in the fields behind the post
office.Again, they were lifers also for me.

2 lifers in one day, wow. Total price $20.00 a lot cheaper than a trip to the
Arctic.
