VA-Birders,
I have observed the Fairlington Merlin for the last three evenings.
On Sunday evening, the bird was in the oak tree shortly before 5:00
PM. On Monday evening, it flew in at 5:12. Today, Tuesday, it flew in
at 5:20. I am so totally amazed that, not only does it pull in around
the same time each evening, but that is sits on exactly the same
branch in the very same tree, as confirmed by my photos. Tonight I
tried to get a slightly different angle on the bird, hoping to
capture the dorsal feather color. The feathers on the back appear to
be grayish. The sun was lower in the sky tonight, the warm tones
reduced, and the color of the feathers more accurately reflected in
today's two new photos. They are first at http://www.pbase.com/
