Hola,

Brian Patteson asked me if I'd forward this note to the listserv regarding
the 5 March trip scheduled to go out of Virginia Beach, one of only two
scheduled for this winter in Virginia. Contact Brian directly if you are
interested.

From Brian:

> Dear Seabirders,
>
> Though our Feb. 26(27) pelagic trip from Virginia Beach is now full,
> we still need about 10 more participants in order to run the March
5(6)
> trip. As usual, I am willing to run the trip at cost, but I cannot
> afford to take a loss on it. I've just returned from the Southern
> Ocean, so I haven't been offshore here for a while, but recent coastal
> sightings indicate a significant incursion of alcids with good numbers
> of Razorbills as far south as Georgia, and Dovekie and Thick-billed
> Murre seen all the way to South Carolina. A recent nearshore trip
from
> New Jersey found only 16 large alcids, but four of these were
> Thick-billed Murres! March is usually excellent for puffins off
> Virginia, with double digit counts being the norm, and we have seen
> Dovekies by the hundreds some years. While Great Skua is usually
> scarce, it has been seen on the majority of our trips, and March is
> prime time for a vagrant albatross if we were to be so lucky again. I
> must stress that this is an exceptional year for alcids, and with more
> daylight in March we will be able to look out for them inshore as well
> as offshore.
>
> I hope that some of you can join us for this trip. For more
> information, please visit our website at http://www.seabirding.com/ or
> give me a call at (252) 986-1363. Also on our website is our schedule
> of spring trip for 2005. I hope to soon add some summer dates, and
> maybe some photos from this weekend's Hatteras trip.
