On a 4 hour drive around Frederick Co today, we found a much larger number of
RTHAs than we've seen all winter on a single day. Prior to today during this
season, our highest daily total was 34 (on 2 occasions).
Today's total included a number that appeared to be migrating and a small
number were apparently paired up (about 6-8 pairs). Most Kestrels also seemed
to be paired up. So far in Frederick Co we have not found any birds on nests,
although we did find one yesterday in WV.
We did NOT find either of the 2 RLHAs that had been around here nor any of the
SEOWs (however, we didn't stay til dusk).
Today's list:
Harrier - 1
Cooper's Hawk - 1
Red-shouldered Hawk - 5
Red-tailed Hawk - 70
Kestrel - 13
