There was a great turnout for the NVBC walk at Lake Accotink this morning, 
co-lead by Paula Sullivan and myself...Twelve people stared intently at the 
frozen lake, it failed to defrost. A beautiful Red-shouldered Hawk drifted over 
our heads, heading south. As all the trails were pack ice, we took the hawk as 
an omen and set our sites south on Occoquan and Tales of Rough-legged Ravens.
Occouquan was a bit more to our liking. The trails were a bit muddy, but 
walkable. Wind kept the small birds to a minimum but there were ducks on the 
river 
and hawks in the sky. After walking the trail, we drove the wildlife loop to 
look for the RL Hawk. Seems we started the loop just as Kurt Gaskill was 
driving in the entrance. Kurt spotted the RL Hawk hunting over the first field. 
The 
RL was dive bombed by one of the RT Hawks and forced down, not to be seen 
again....no Ravens either...shucks. 
AND REMEMBER: IT WAS FORTY YEARS AGO TODAY, SGT PEPPER TAUGHT THE BAND TO 
PLAY - SHE LOVES YOU YES, YES, YES, YES...
