Some of the more unusual yard birds that have been around here, including
today, are 8 purple finches, a bright fox sparrow has been up in the yard alot
lately, a field sparrow has been to a feeder daily now for awhile, approx.
20+ mourning doves are always around, 8 Bob-white quail make twice daily forays
under the feeders, the local Red-shouldered hawk still comes in and eats large
chunks of suet, and the Eastern phoebe that was here last winter is present
this year as well. Its out there now gleaning insects that I wouldn't think
existed. Also Great horned owls have been calling just after dark for the last
5-6 nites. I haven't heard the Long-eared owls since fall. Still no sign of a
pine siskin that I would love to add to my yard list. Dave White Zion
