[va-bird] Potomac River

A short walk in Fort Hunt Park (south of Alexandria) yielded little (a ruby
crowned kinglet, some robins which are certainly ubiquitous, a fish crow, some
jays, a white-breasted nuthatch), but on the way back home I stopped by the
Potomac.
I had noticed out of the corner of my eye what looked like mounds of snow
floating in the river. A handy pull-in allowed me to park. There floating
among
mallards, scaups, canvasbacks and ring-necked ducks were more than a dozen
swans. I think they were tundra swans. The adults had jet black bills and
they
were holding their necks straight up from the breast. I saw no yellow on the
bills, however. One immature's bill had a slight dusty red/orange cast to it.
