[va-bird] Metz Wetland - Harris Sparrow Yes

I just returned from the Metz wetland (my first visit) and found the Harris
Sparrow. What a handsome bird!
I found him at 9:30 a.m. by the foot bridge -- the one that is not near the
parking lot, but farther out. If you walk into the wetland from the parking
lot using the trail just behind the sign in the parking lot, you'll see the
first foot bridge. Stay to the left and walk until you reach the second foot
bridge. The Harris Sparrow was on the ground along the trail with a group of
White Throated Sparrows, a pair of Cardinals, and a Swamp Sparrow. I may have
also seen a Fox Sparrow, but it disappeared before I could ID it.

I also found a Field Sparrow near the first foot bridge and flushed a Northern
Harrier on the way to the second foot bridge.

It is warming up out there - go and enjoy.

While I was in the area I stopped by the Prince William Landfill to check for
gulls. It was pretty slim pickings out there today. A nice employee took me
up to the top of the landfill as he was not sure my Honda Civic could make the
climb. Maybe once you get a grip on DC streets, climbing a landfill is like an
easy drive. Anyway, no gulls working the landfill, but there were 2
Red-Shouldered Hawks, lots of Turkey Vultures, I saw one adult Bald Eagle, lots
of American Crows and thousands of Starlings.
