Hi Val and list-serv,

Just to add to Larry Cartwright's message, when I got to Leesylvania, there
were 176 Canvasbacks stretching from the fishing pier across to the snack bar
area. They were barely outnumbered by Lesser Scaup. I also saw the Horned
Grebe, a few Common Mergansers, and 10 Tundra Swan near the train bridge.

Other highlights were, at Mason Neck State Park, 20 Tundra Swan just off the
shore at the Visitor Center and at least 300 Common Mergansers amidst Lesser
Scaup and Ruddies in Belmont Bay. At Pohick Bay Regional Park, there were 3
adult Bald Eagles in the parking lot !!!!!!!!!! perched in trees along the
shoreline as well as others dotting the treeline across the bay.

Occoquan NWR featured an amazing display of Northern Flickers bursting out of
the fields along the short drive to the parking area, a lovely female American
Kestrel perched near the parking area, a handful of Savannah Sparrows, and many
Lesser Scaup on the water.

Red-shouldered Hawks were out and about everywhere...we had 8 for the day.

Linda Millington
