From a physiological standpoint, I would be concerned about the increased
salt intake and its effects on osmotic and water balance. Normally, wild
animals do not ingest salty food. They acquire some salts from their diet,
although seeds contain little salt, and some salts from mineral soils or
along roadsides. I think any human foods that are salted are a bad choice
for birds.

VA Birders,
Someone asked me today if the salty fat trimmed from ham, etc. would harm
birds. I had to admit I didn't really know. Does anyone know if it is
harmful?
