Virginia Society of Ornithology
Field Trip to the Outer Banks, NC
Feb. 7-9, 2003
The VSO's Outer Banks field trip was a great success again this year
thanks to the outstanding leadership of Jerry Via and Bill Akers. I did
not hear the offical head count, but we had roughly 80 participants. Of
the total there were about 35 or so ornithology and biology students.from
Virginia Tech, James Madison, and Eastern Mennonite. We really enjoyed
having them along.
The sightings of Dovekie from several locations were some of the
weekend's highlights. From the south end of the Oregon Inlet bridge,
everyone had great looks at a Dovekie in calm, protected waters.
Razorbills were also seen by some. The weekend count total was 104
species.
