On Feb. 8, five people participated in our regular monthly bird walk at the
Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve (www.bansheereeks.org). 35 species were
observed. The temperature was 21 degrees when we started and 28 when we
finished with about 4.5" of snow on the ground. The glare off the snow made
it very difficult to identify the many sparrows who insisted on constantly
moving into the sun.
The most int'g birds were a single male Hooded Merganser, a single Red-headed
Woodpecker, 3 Yellow-bellied Woodpeckers, a Winter Wren and a singing (for a
long time) Rusty Blackbird.
