Hello Birders,
We took a walk up and down river from the Riverbend Park Visitor Center this
morning. It was a bit brisk (the sun didn't come out until after we left).
This stretch of the Potomac River is still mostly frozen. Naturally, with a few
exeptions, most of the open water was along the Maryland shore.
Highlights included four Common mergansers (one male and three females) and a
lone Tundra Swan. We first saw the swan downriver from the Visitors Center,
then it flew up river a bit and was still there when we left right around noon.
