[va-bird] Postings on VA-bird

VA-birders,

We have had some excellent bird reports posted recently, along with some
very helpful information regarding the Barnacle Goose locations. What a
beautiful goose! We also appreciate the useful information on what
constitutes
an acceptable bird to the Virginia records committee. Additional
information
and the forms for submitting rare bird details to VARCOM are located on
the
VSO webpage. Additional questions can be sent to the records committee
"off-line". VSO publications list the "accepted" and "rejected" rare bird

submissions in case you would like to hear about other species that are
submitted and ruled on.

This note is to encourage folks to return to posting bird sighting
information and
to not send "chat" type of notes. I also encourage those who are having
listserve
administrative problems to send the notes directly to the list
administrators... and
not to the entire listserve.

We are currently looking into changing the listserve settings so that
"replies" go
only to the person who sent the note. If we can set this up, folks will
then need
to type in the address for the listserve in order to post a note. Of
course, the
easy way to do that is to just set up the listserve address in your
address book.
If we figure out how to do this, we will make the change and send a note
to
everyone. This will be another way to reduce the volume of non-"bird
sighting
reports" and personal notes that sometimes plague the listserve.

Spring fever and migration will be arriving soon... along with more hot
bird
reports!

Best regards to everyone!
