[va-bird] GRACKLES GALORE!

Wow! I was on my way home for lunch today, east of Broadway VA, and
saw blackbirds beyond my usual estimate-ability!! I'm guessing
10,000 +. They were wheeling and settling in fields, depending on
passing traffic. When I got close enough, all I could see, naked
eye, were grackles and starlings. Looked for redwings and
brownheads, etc., but they were so nervous/on the move. Then, up in
the sky, a redtail being chased by a kestrel; suddenly, the
redtail dove right into the flock and got its lunch. Marvelous
sights. Those blackbirds wheeling around in such a mass, like a
huge black cape manipulated by a flamenco dancer.
Cheers! Richard Schiemann
