Occoquan NWR was kind of quiet this morning. No large concentrations of
sparrows as one would expect with colder weather. Nevertheless, it was a very
enjoyable walk. Highlights were a common yellowthroat along Charlie Rd. near
the river, a turkey in a tree, a kestrel hunting over the big field, several
very vocal king rails, singing meadowlark, winter wren and fox sparrow, and a
huge flock of scaup. The only non-lesser scaup I could find was a single
greater.
