[va-bird] Nice day in Highland County

With the beautiful warm weather and clear skies, I decided to look for eagles
today and Sandy Hevener joined me on this trip. We wanted to scout out the
Snowy Mountain Area and also the backside of Devil'sBackbone from a vantage
point on the top of High Valley.
12:15 pm 1 immature Golden Eagle soaring over the high knob of Snowy Mt, viewed
from Rt. 644 (top of Hardscrabble Rd)
From this vantage point, we also saw 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Northern
Harriers(it's possible we saw the same bird twice), and 1 unidentified raptor.
2:00-2:30 pm. I mature Bald Eagle perched in tree in depression along Devil's
Backbone. Stayed there for about 20 minutes, then when we were driving south
on 640 just about a mile past the Forks of Water, we saw presumably the same
bird fly from the Backbone, over the road and river and head south.
Other birds we spotted (we were not looking for large numbers, just whatever we
happened to see on our route):
Tufted Titmouse
Black-capped Chickadee
Ruffed Grouse
Raven
American Crow
Mourning Doves
4 Red-tailed hawks
4 Eastern Meadowlarks (beautiful yellow breasts, perched in trees)
Eastern Bluebird
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
