I made a second unsuccessful visit to the ORP to look for the
Brown-headed Nuthatch this morning. There was a large noisy mob of crows
(both species) hanging around the entrance when I arrived around 9:45
am.  Over 2 hours of walking the road and trails produced several flocks
of GC Kinglets/Chickadees with associated Brown Creepers but no
nuthatches.  The pines along the white blazed trail also produced some
juncos, a Hermit Thrush and a few woodpeckers.  I watched a Raccoon
napping atop what looked like a squirrel nest along the power line right
of way.

 

On the way home I stopped at Burke Lake and saw the drake Red-breasted
Merganser from the boat launch area off the main parking lot.  Very few
ducks were visible from here, maybe half a dozen Ruddies and some
Mallard.  At the south end of the lake were maybe a dozen female Common
Mergansers, a single drake Hooded Merganser and a drake Common
Goldeneye, a species I have not seen at Burke Lake before.
