[va-bird] Year-end Birds in Arlington Co.

VA Birders,
I spent the last 2 days of 2004 birding and getting a little exercise in
a couple of my favorite local birding spots: Dec. 30 at Roaches Run, across
from Washington National Airport, and Dec. 31 at Fort C.F. Smith Park, both
here in Arlington Co. Birding highlights at Roaches Run were: 34 Hooded
Mergansers, 6 Pied-billed Grebes, and 1 Black-crowned Night-Heron. At Fort
Smith on
Dec. 31, my best birds were 1 (or possibly 2) Red-shouldered and 2 Red-tailed
Hawks, and 1 adult Bald Eagle which flew over quite low in excellent light--a
great year-end bird!
