Happy New Year Everyone! Its quite a nice New Years Day for a walk around
the yard-52 degrees at 9AM. The Eastern Phoebe that is a year around resident
was gleaning insects in the side yard this morning. I also flushed up 7 Bob
White Quail. There were 2 Hermit Thrushes along the streams in the wetlands in
the back yard, along with a Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron, Red-shouldered
Hawk, Yellow-belleid Woodpecker, Song and White-throated sparrows and a Fox
Sparrow, a single Brown Creeper, and Pileated Woodpeckers. The lake in the
front
yard has 3 Hooded Mergansers and a male Bufflehead on it. Eastern Bluebirds
were calling from the front porch roof. The feeders in the back yard have the
usual Purple Finches, Goldfinches, Juncos, White-breasted Nuthatches, Mourning
Doves, Cedar Waxwings, Red bellied, Downy, and Hairy Woodpeckers, Northern
Flickers, and a Coopers Hawk that has been unusually open and evident this
winter. Happy New Years and Happy Birding, everyone!! Dave White Zion
