I've seen one red-breasted nuthatch -- and that was last Sunday at a platform
feeder. Although I live in Arlington, too, we were up on the mountain in
western Loudoun county at our place there. I was delighted to see a RBNU -
but figured perhaps they were more likely at this elevation (just under
1800')

Apologies for this belated post. During the snow last Sunday, January 5, at
about 3 PM I observed a Red-breasted Nuthatch at one of the feeders at Long
Branch Nature Center in Arlington. It was a brief, but good look. Since then
I've realized that may be more unusual than I thought at the time. Are they
turning up elsewhere in the area? Of course, we have the White-breasteds
around all the time. Cheers,
Steve Young
