:ON:
Gwen waited for everyone to gather around. She knew they were
probably pretty anxious to find out who made it and who didn't. This
was not going to be an easy decision for her. Everyone was good. But
there were only just so many positions.
Soren stood next to Gwen. She was
still determining who were the best chasers. She decided on the first
two fairly easily. They had both shown extraordinary talent. However,
there were two more that she was going back and forth between. In her
head she listed all the pros and cons for both players. When it came
down to it, one of them had a slight advantage. That was the person
she chose.
"All right everyone. It's time to announce who has made the
team. I want all of you to know that, whether or not you made the
team, you are all very good players. I bet you that we could make two
teams and both would be able to beat the Intrepid Crew! But, we only
need one for the moment. So, here goes.
"For the position of keeper . . . " Gwen paused and looked at
both Lt. jg. Johnson and Ensign Correl. "Correl, you had some great
saves out there. However, Lt. Johnson was just a little bit more
consistent all through out tryouts and today in the game." She smiled
one last time to Correl and Johnson. Then she turned her attention to
the four players trying out for the beater position.
"For the position of beaters . . . Lt Lost and Ens Eckert. You
two really worked well out there and never missed a shot.
"And finally, for my part at least, we come to the position of
seeker. Some might say this is the most important position. Of course
the fact that the seeker who catches the snitch receives 150 points and
ends the game, makes it virtually impossible to win without a great
seeker. We were lucky enough to have two players with such talent try
out. Unfortunately, we can only have one seeker. That player is Lt
Tracy, she was the one who caught the snitch today. Mal, I hope you
keep practicing. You definitely are a natural at this.
"Well, that ends my part of announcing position. I will now turn
it over to Lt. Soren, who will announce the players she has chosen for
chasers." Gwen stepped aside to let Soren have the spotlight.
"After having made a list of pros
and cons for each player, 3 people came out to be the most logical
choice for the team. Those players are: Doctor Ratch, Commander
Marqusa, and Lt Vanik." With that Soren looked back to Gwen to
indicate that she was done.
Gwen was a little surprised by the announcement and she tried to
hide her slight disappointment. She didn't like Vanik and didn't think
he was a very good team player. But she had to admit that he was
definitely a good player. Of course, she would have preferred that
Rommie had been chosen instead. Even if he wasn't as good.
"All right everyone, you are dismissed. The first practice will
be announced later.
"Rommie, could I have a word with you for a moment?" Gwen asked
as she stepped over to him to pull him aside. She had a favor to ask
of him.
