Lieutenant Jeff Dawson, acting chief engineer of the Federation starship
Eagle, loved being an engineer. But , as he laid on his back, working to
repair the damage the new sub mode did to power coupling 281 and the
surrounding junctures, he really wished he had taken that post on starbase
25.
"Just once, I would like a little bit of routine. I swear this ship gets
into more scrapes then any ship in the fleet," the young Lt said quietly to
himself as he sterilized the EPS tap connections.
"Bass to Lt. Dawson."
Muttering a bloody curse about senior officers, he opened the channel and
kept on working. "Dawson here sir."
"Chief, I need your after action report as well as your report on the new
sub mode by 1500 hours," replied the Eagle's first officer.
~1500 hours, ~ Jeff thought to himself, ~the commander must be nuts. There
is no way I can get the ship back in shape and get the reports ready in 2
hours.~ To his boss he only said, "Were kind of busy picking up the pieces
down here.SIR. But I will get you your reports as soon as I can. Dawson
out"
With the channel closed muttered a few old English curse words before
opening another channel, "Dawson to Ch'Thane, I need you to finish the
repairs to the main grid while I take care of some paper work."
