Malachi returned to his quarters as "siggested" by his father. He
activated the holographic teacher to begin his classes. The teacher
once again chided him for his being tardy, but immediately changed her
tone when she was told he was doing bridge duty. "She" went into a
series of questions on the sensor readings he had taken at the science
station and the results. "She" also went into why he had gotten the
results he had.
During the lesson, Malachi's mind kept wandering to what was going to
happen afterwards. He was really looking forward to dinner. He really
enjoyed spending time with Melody.
"Mr. Fyrstk!" came the voice of the teacher. "Your mind is drifting
again."
"I'm sorry, ma'am," Malachi said. "What was your question again?"
"I asked you why the sensor wave was able to detect the exhaust of the
cloaked ship."
Malachi started to explain the theory of the sensor wave and how it
detects objects in space. He suddenly felt a dull pain towards the
front of his head. It faded quickly but he must have made some kind of
face because the holo-teacher was looking at him with much concern.
"Are you okay, Mr. Fyrstk?" the six-inch instructor asked.
"Yes, ma'am," Mal said. "it was just a headache. It's gone now."
"God. Let's get back to our lesson."
Malachi did just that. He carefully explained the theories behind the
sensors and how the sensor dish sends and receives the signals. The
teacher was pleased with the day's lesson and bid him a good evening.
Malachi put everything away and started for the mess hall. He ran back
to his quarters and went into Lukas's room. He dabbed a small bit of
Lukas's cologne, the one his mom really liked on himself and headed
back out.
