Faye,

I don't have experience with either of these telescopes but in general,
the 10" reflector should give you pretty good views. I can't see a 5"
refractor doing better. What is it you are trying to view? What is it
you are disappointed with? Maybe you don't have the right eyepiece for
what you are trying. Maybe the telescope has some issue. Or, maybe,
you are expecting too much from "through the eyepiece" observing.

I'd suggest that this weekend's viewing events by the Northern Cross
Science Foundation at Harrington Beach would be a great opportunity for
you to see views with other 10" dobs and, I'm sure, some refractors.

Best regards,

Dave Windorski

Subject: [Try Astronomy] Question

I am thinking of buying a new telescope. I have a Celestron 10"
dobsonian reflector but I've been kind of disapointed with my views. I
know part of it is becuase I'm not able to get into real darkness.

I've been thinking about getting a Meade 5" Achromatic refractor. Does
anyone have one of these or something similar and what is your opinion
of it?

Thanks,
Faye
