Hi Becca,
There are several current Nagler "lines." That's because each design is a
little different, depending on the focal length. The Type 4, Type 5 and Type
6 are all current; there is no overlap (ie there isn't a 9mm Type 4 and a
9mm Type 6). For a complete list, you can go to www.televue.com.
For straight image quality, I like the 9mm Nagler Type 6. Note that I don't
actually *have* one of those eyepieces (mine is the discontinued 9mm Nagler
Type 1), but I've looked through them and I've been impressed. The eye
relief and sharpness is better than the 9mm Nagler Type 1, and it's a much
smaller package. I would personally prefer the 9mm Nagler Type 6 over an
8.8mm Meade UWA.
At Astrofest this year, I sold my 7mm Nagler Type 1 and purchased a 7mm
Nagler Type 6 for the same reasons. Actually, I was quite happy with the
Type 1 until I looked through a Type 6, but that's how it is with progress!
